April 2017 has been the month of all things "volunteer". May 2017 is shaping up to be the same. While it's a lot of work to keep up with school, an internship (including volunteering), and a full-time job simultaneously, I have a pitted feeling it'll play into a bigger picture. Right now I know: (1) I'll have all of these experiences to carry with me into the future, (2) volunteering with a conservation non-profit gets me outside regularly, and (3) I'm grateful to be helping out the local community on a continued basis. I fell into the Wild Amelia internship-slash-volunteer role May of 2016, so I'm pretty surprised by how fast that first year went, most likely it's all due to the projects, events, and experiences that I've been afforded. This flyer below that I put together is linked to such experiences - on behalf of Wild Amelia I worked on the Annual River Clean Up Steering Committee. From February to April the event was planned and eventually hosted on Earth Day 2017. The whole experience made me reminisce of past projects I've worked on with the Association of Florida Colleges (also a non-profit). Committee work reminds me of a program or project management situation, not as extensive but, it's short lived, it's with a purpose, and team-based. This is an abbreviated and generalized statement but it's my current thoughts, sure to change with time and other experiences. For now though, this is "blogged" and ready for later reflection. :-)

A leader is best when people barely know that he exists, not so good when people obey and acclaim him, worst when they despise him. Fail to honor people, they fail to honor you. But of a good leader, who talks little, when his work is done, his aims fulfilled, they will all say, "We did this ourselves." Archives
